“Images
of Mining” shows the remains of mining
in Biscay and East Cantabria. A past activity, almost
forgotten by the current generations, but necessary
to understand the industrialization of Bilbao area;
motor of industry and germ of the 20th century’s
social movements.
This work compiles the remains of the mining avtivity
so as to save them from falling into oblivion, to reconstruct
the map of this activity and to claim its importance.

The exhibition is composed of 50 photographs in blank
and white, on silver gelatine, printed by Juan Manuel
Castro Prieto in 30x40 centimetre size.
To coincide with the exhibition, a booklet containing
109 photos with texts in Basque and Spanish, a map in
1:30.000 scale done by Ricardo Alonso Besteiro and a
historical introduction by Juan Eugenio Villar Ibáñez,
were published.
